Charlotte's delicate son, Georg (Herbert Groenemeyer), will turn out to be a homosexual film maker who becomes a favorite of top Nazi officials. Charlotte herself has an affair with Max Bernhiem (Hannes Jaenicke), the young son of a Jewish banker. Max will eventually fall in love with Charlotte's daughter, Elli (Katharina Thalbach), who will save his life by agreeing to marry a scheming Nazi opportunist. And so on, with enough twists to give ''Dynasty'' a run for its money.
