Rallye Dakar

Well, it is all over. Months of preparation of the trucks from our Team, the MAN Team, fitters that have been working for 24 hours a day (working through Xmas even ) to make sure everything was ready for the Rally, flying the whole team in, it is all over. No start today, no chance to defend our title that we won last year.

And why? Because a terrorist group decided it was again neccesary to force the western world down on their knees by threaths of death, violence and destruction to innocent people. A small group of religious extremists, ruin it for so many people. I ask myself if they realise how big the impact is and how many people are hurt by this. Not just the teams, it..s not just money that big companies lose because the Rally does not take place.

What to think about all the people in the countries the rally was supposed to go through, and where people literally make a whole year income off this rally. The people that do not have food now, do not have the ability to build something up from the money the Dakar Rally provides them with (which is about 70 million Euro!!)

What about all the drivers, fitters, managers, assitents and pressteams that spend a whole year of developing new cars, trucks and motorcycles, that spend hrs away from home, working for little to nothing to get their team the succes they need? Driving all the vehicles (550 contestants, need I say more) here from all over the world?

What about this italian guy, who has cancer and is dying approx in March. He had one more dream to forfill... his last wish was to drive in the Dakar Rally. So a special project was started to get money for the car he needed, for the prescriptionmoney he needed to pay.

What about this french photographer, who sold his pictures beforehand and got a loan from the bank to finance his trip so he could make his pictures in the first place. Who now has a loan he cannot pay for and this will make him lose his business?

What about this danish private team, where the drivers sold their houses to finance their trip and entrance on the Rally, and said to their wives: as soon as we have driven the Rally, and we had enough exposure for our sponsors, we have enough money again to buy another house and have a roof over our heads for our children to grow up in.

This not just a Rally that got cancelled. This has ruined lives, and will keep on ruining lives for many years to come. And thanks to these bloodseeking, murdering "in the name of our god" idiots, many more lives will be ruined in the years to come.

Well done. And thank you very much.
